In August of 1999 Express Data Ltd. were awarded the prestigious contract to install a data communications infrastructure to provide 3,000 Alcatel Category 5e UTP outlets and link cables, utilising low smoke halogen-free cabling.
The project was to take place at the Yorkshire Building Society Head Office at the top of the M606 motorway on the outskirts of Bradford, West Yorkshire.
To prevent disruption to the business operation and to comply with Health and Safety legislation, all the work had to be undertaken during the night.
The logistics created by this requirement were particularly complex due to the working areas being heavily-populated with modern office furniture and equipment.
|
The cabling infrastructure was distributed from a total of nine locations. Each of the satellite communications rooms was linked to the main communications rooms via UTP link cables, voice multicore cables, and a Blown Fibre-Optic system.
The entire project was successfully completed inside a two-month period – way ahead of schedule. So successful was the project that employees outside the IT department had little or no knowledge that any work had taken place!
Following the impressive installation, Express Data were then awarded a cabling maintenance agreement with YBS ensuring that our engineers responded to site the next working day to repair any cabling fault at any of the 130+ remote branch sites.
|
Further projects have since been completed including an expansion of the Blown Fibre infrastructure throughout the premises in line with the re-location of communications equipment and disaster-recovery policy.
The complete re-cabling of the main communications room, involving a further six hundred outlets, has also been successfully carried out.
