“Given the current uncertainties surrounding 10Gbase-T cabling standards and the potential performance issues of unshielded cabling, Express Data Ltd. decided that a Brand-Rex shielded Cat6 system was the only one that could offer the performance assurances Wm Morrison will require over the next few years,” commented Simon Wilson, Managing Director of Express Data. “Once cabling is installed inside a new building it is very difficult to upgrade, so we need to be sure that the cable we specify and install today will be capable of delivering optimum 10GBase-T performance when the standards are finalised.”
Express Data who designed the system in conjunction with Wm Morrison’s IT department, will be managing the project and has selected Brand-Rex, the UK’s leading structured cabling manufacturer, to supply a shielded Cat6Plus system to be installed to 6,000 outlets throughout the new building.
The network backbone will also consist of Brand-Rex Blolite fibre products. Express Data selected a shielded Cat6 system as the safest choice for ensuring future compatibility with the 10GBASE-T communications standard which is not due to be finalised until 2006.
